Box-Office Review: August 28-30, 2009
by Honk Mahfah on Aug.30, 2009, under Box-Office Review, Movies, Quentin Tarantino
As I recall, I predicted that Halloween II and The Final Destination would not both have good opening weekends, and in that, I was correct.
However, I was dead wrong about which one would be an achiever and which would be a loser.
Fresh Out of the Oven: August at the Movies
by Honk Mahfah on Aug.29, 2009, under Movies, Quentin Tarantino
Somehow, I’ve managed to not write many reviews lately, so let’s take some time and play a moderately quick game of catch-up, with brief reviews of Ponyo, District 9, (500) Days of Summer, Inglourious Basterds, and Rob Zombie’s Halloween II. No spoilers to be wary of.

Trailer for Zombie’s “Halloween 2″ Debuts
by Honk Mahfah on Apr.27, 2009, under Movies
Yahoo Movies has the first trailer for Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 (which is apparently officially titled H2, and fellas, I wish you the best of luck getting me to ever actually call it that).
You can check it out here.
My take on the trailer…? I thought you’d never ask.
My initial thought was that the look and tone suggest that Zombie is going for more straightforward scares here, with fewer of the stylistic flourishes that have so polarized the audiences for his first three films (House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, and Halloween). I kept right on thinking that until the moment Sheri Moon Zombie appeared as some sort of ghostly image of Michael’s moms, who appears to be in this movie in a kind of schizophrenic-vision capacity.
Which is not to say that I disliked this trailer. Not at all, in fact; it looks pretty damn good to me. But I’ve been a fan of Zombie’s previous three films, so take that for what it’s worth.
Halloween 2, or whatever they’re calling it, opens on August 28.

Halloween Sequel Wraps Production
by Honk Mahfah on Apr.13, 2009, under Movies
Rob Zombie has announced via his MySpace blog that filming has wrapped on his Halloween sequel.
The new film has come under attack from traditionalist fans in recent days after reports that Michael Myers would spend about 70% of the film without the white ghostface mask which has been such an enormous facet of the character’s identity since the original film in 1978.
An Update on Rob Zombie’s Tyrannosaurus Rex
by Honk Mahfah on Apr.09, 2009, under Movies
Ryan Rotten, managing editor of Shock Till You Drop, has posted an update on Rob Zombie’s Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Zombie’s film, which was scheduled to be filmed in time for an August 2009 release, was put on the backburner before filming commenced. Rotten has confirmed that the rights to make the film have now expired for Dimension Films. Zombie is now shopping the project to different studios and expects the film to be his next, after finishing the currently-filming Halloween 2. That film will fulfill Zombie’s two-picture deal at Dimension and leave him free to seek work elsewhere.
No word on why Zombie and Dimension chose not to work together on Tyrannosaurus Rex. Halloween 2 is scheduled to be released on August 28.
