Beatlemania. Engage.Dear, Rock Band. Thank you for a specific band themed title that I will actually play.
This one will be short and sweet. Its a Rock Band game, so you know what to expect out of the engine. There aren’t any real changes, except for that star power is now called Beatlemania. Bitchin.
The song selection is amazing. You get loads of your favs by default, more are unlockable and a massive load of downloadable content is on the way. Playing thru the story, the songs are presented in chronological order. You start out as the appropriately aged versions from the beginning of their career, and then as the story progresses, you move forward thru their timeline hitting all the major venues and making girls scream along the way. Want the young cute versions? They’re in there. Want the crazy looking bearded versions? They’re in there. Even the clothing is aged appropriately, and occasionally you get one of the wild outfits to match the wild videos / stage performances you have going on in the background.
Now, the Beatles theme is by far the biggest pull for the game. Come on, its the Beatles. But in my opinion, it might actually be a con for the game as well. While I LOVE playing oldies on an actual guitar or on the RB or GH series of games, I also love being challenged. The Beatles do have their solos, and their various lead parts that set the mood for a lot of their songs, but even on expert, nothing seems to pose a real problem. Drums give a little more challenge, but its still a pretty straightforward rhythm.
To sum it up, I fear that if you’re not a Beatles fan, then this game may have no replay value for you. However if you ARE a Beatles fan, then this game will still be extremely pleased. Hell, you could just watch someone else play and still get Beatlemania. Enjoy.
