Disney announces “Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides” at D23 Expo, with Johnny Depp making an appearance

The first D23 Expo has already made some big waves with the announcement of “Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides.” Johnny Depp was on stage, and in character, as Captain Jack Sparrow with Dick Cook (Walt Disney Studios chairman) for the big announcement. The news came out today, the second day of the D23 expo (D23 being the official Disney fan club). It was the big conclusion of 2 hours of celebrity appearances, film clips, and movie announcements (I’ll have more on all of that soon). The fourth Pirates film is due out summer of 2011.
Depp made a similar surprise appearance at Comic-Con earlier this year after Tim Burton debuted the trailer for “Alice in Wonderland.” So far the one video that has surfaced only shows Depp’s appearance on stage at D23 – hopefully video of the full announcement will be out soon.
