Tim Riggins of Mars

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Taylor Kitsch has been cast in the title role of Disney’s upcoming John Carter of Mars. Kitsch is better known as Tim Riggins on NBC/DirecTV’s Friday Night Lights … okay, fine, he’s better known as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
John Carter of Mars is due to be directed by Andrew Stanton, one of Pixar’s geniuses (specifically, he’s the one who directed Finding Nemo and WALL*E … which ought to settle any concerns that the first-time live-action director might lack the imagination require to tackle a huge sci-fi film such as this one is tipped to be). The film is not expected to be released as a Pixar production.
Also cast in the film is Lynn Collins, who also appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. She will play the role of Dejah Thoris, who apparently is some manner of Martian royalty.
Filming is tenatively set for early 2010.
